Building skills has become a crucial element for any company. So much so that the firm Deloitte identifies reskilling in between their 2021 Human Capital Trends. But, what exactly is it and how to implement a strategy around it?

According to TalentGuard, reskilling is the process of learning new skills in order to be able to perform a different job or training your work team so that they can do different tasks.

This idea is prevailing and especially useful in the new context that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon us.

Beyond just adapting to remote work and home office, many leaders have started to point out the ability of their work teams to amplify their functions and unfold the abilities of their coworkers.

This is an important opportunity for professionals, given that while companies perceive the added value of investing in training and development, they can pave the way into specialization and create new growth paths in their professional careers.

In fact, the World Economic Forum estimates that by 2022, 54% of employees will require a significant reskilling.

Now that its relevance has been stated, how to deploy a reskilling strategy?

In order to begin unfolding reskilling across your organization and your work teams, Apprendo defines the first three steps.

1. Identify critical abilities. Especially in these uncertain times, your coworkers’ abilities will be crucial to sort out all the challenges your company faces.

Define which resources will be more helpful and prioritize them. This can be training of certain tools or software (Excel, video conference platforms or other specialized softwares) or even needed soft skills in your day to day work, etc.

2. Prioritize a learning culture. The second front and probably the one that will define its success, is the active involvement of the people in your work team.

It’s important that you communicate the value of training and reskilling for everyone and avoid them to perceive it as a way to “overload” them.

If any of your coworkers has specific abilities or skills, encourage training sessions among the teams to share their knowledge; this way you can also focus on team building.

3. Look for the right tools to set it in motion. All strategies need a proper platform, not only to deploy, but also to make sure it is effective and to measure its impact.

Especially in learning and training initiatives, this can define its success, considering that if you don’t have an adequate medium all the possibilities that it represents will be wasted.

Set measurable goals and look for simple tools that are friendly with your teams and that can work in either remote or in person formats (in order to use them in the future).

Unfold the potential of you work teams and give them the training they need to leverage all their abilities and encourage their and your company’s growt
